Alberta Hunter

Co-author of "Downhearted Blues" with Lovie Austin, she recorded for Paramount from 1922 to 1924, sometimes under a pseudonym. After about twenty years as a nurse, she made a notable comeback in 1977 at The Cookery, a club in Greenwich Village, and recorded several albums for Columbia.
