Pianist trained in composition under Bernd Alois Zimmermann, he founded the Globe Unity Orchestra at 28 and, in 1988, the Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. He also led a long-running trio with Evan Parker and Paul Lovens, before revisiting Monk ("Monk's Casino," 2005).
