Don Redman

alto saxophone, clarinet, arrangement · 1900–1964 · Piedmont

Multi-instrumentalist and arranger, he joined Fletcher Henderson in 1923 and helped set the language of the big band. He led McKinney's Cotton Pickers from 1927, then his own orchestra from 1931.
