Eddie Palmieri

Pianist born in Manhattan in 1936, Eddie Palmieri founded La Perfecta in 1961, which replaced the charanga's violins with two trombones and a flute. Winner of nine Grammy Awards, including the first one awarded in the Best Latin Recording category (1975), he died in August 2025 in Hackensack (New Jersey).
