New Orleans Rhythm Kings

band (cornet, trombone, clarinet, rhythm section) · Chicago

Formed around Paul Mares, George Brunies, and Leon Roppolo, the orchestra played at the Friars Inn in Chicago in 1922 as the Friars Society Orchestra, then became the New Orleans Rhythm Kings in 1923. Its 1922-1923 Gennett recordings, some with Jelly Roll Morton, strongly influenced white orchestras of the 1920s.
