Pianist born in Whiteville, Tennessee, influenced by Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson and Bud Powell, known for fast improvisations in parallel octaves with both hands. His career was disrupted by health problems, a hand injury and a long period of obscurity from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s.
