The Staple Singers
Family group formed around Roebuck "Pops" Staples (1914-2000) and his children Cleotha, Pervis, Mavis, and Yvonne, the Staple Singers sang in Chicago churches from 1948. After an acoustic folk gospel sound recorded for Vee-Jay and Riverside, they moved to Epic and then Stax, where they became a voice of the civil rights movement.
