Jazz in film and on screen
In the late 1950s, composers and jazz musicians write scores for entire films and series in a jazz idiom: Mancini for "Peter Gunn" (the first Album of the Year Grammy), Ellington for "Anatomy of a Murder" (three Grammys in 1959). The genre continues with Hancock ("Blow-Up"), Quincy Jones, Lalo Schifrin and as far as Bernard Herrmann, whose score for "Taxi Driver" (1976) is the first to make extensive use of jazz.
