Baroque and Blue
Context
First movement of the Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio, written by Claude Bolling in 1973 for classical flute and jazz trio, "Baroque and Blue" blends baroque writing and jazz pulse. The 1975 recording with Jean-Pierre Rampal, released on Columbia Masterworks, was nominated for a Grammy the same year, stayed about ten years on the American classical chart and opened a series of "crossover" collaborations for Bolling.
