Body and Soul
Context
On this standard, Hawkins moves away from the melody almost entirely and improvises two choruses from the chord changes. The harmonic approach, which foreshadows certain traits of bebop, makes it a reference for tenor saxophone improvisation. It was his greatest success and was added to the National Recording Registry in 2004.
