Burgundy Street Blues
Context
Blues recorded in 1944 by Bill Russell, while clarinetist George Lewis was recovering from an injury on the docks; the track became his signature. Lewis had played with Bunk Johnson in the 1930s and recorded with him in the early 1940s. After Johnson's retirement, he took over leadership of the band and became one of the figures of the New Orleans revival.
