Cheek to Cheek
Context
Written by Irving Berlin, "Cheek to Cheek" is on the program of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong's first recorded meeting, cut on August 16, 1956, at the new Capitol Studios in Hollywood. The contrast between Armstrong's gravelly voice and Fitzgerald's precision gives the album Ella and Louis, released in October 1956, its appeal, and it has since been regarded as a high point of popular singing.
