Salt Peanuts
Context
Written by Dizzy Gillespie with drummer Kenny Clarke, this bebop theme takes the AABA structure of "I Got Rhythm" and puts a new melody on it, built on octave figures. The May 1945 session with Charlie Parker is considered the reference version. In 1978, Jimmy Carter sang the refrain with Gillespie at the White House.
