Strange Things Happening Every Day
Context
Recorded in September 1944 for Decca with pianist Sammy Price, a bass and drums, this track was the first gospel record to cross the genre barrier: it reached number 2 on Billboard's "race" chart in May 1945. It is often cited as an important precursor of rock and roll, even as a candidate for the first rock record.
