Tiger Rag
Context
The origins of the theme are disputed: New Orleans musicians said it was older, and Jelly Roll Morton claimed it as his own. The band copyrighted it in 1917 and recorded it on Aeolian-Vocalion, but this vertical-cut record sold poorly. The Victor version of March 1918 caught on and made the track a jazz standard.
