Centerpiece of We Insist! (Candid, 1961), recorded in New York in late August-early September 1960, it is a duo between Abbey Lincoln and Max Roach in three sections. In "Protest," Lincoln screams for over a minute over Roach's drums, tuned to her voice: the "scream" that gives the episode its title.
