Walkin' and Swingin'
Context
Recorded for Decca on March 2, 1936, this 32-bar tune is a composition by Mary Lou Williams, chief arranger of Andy Kirk's Twelve Clouds of Joy. She takes a stride-flavored piano chorus on it, with tenor Dick Wilson on the bridge. The end of the saxophone soli contains the main motif of Thelonious Monk's "Rhythm-a-Ning."
