Lennie Tristano
A pianist born in Chicago and blind from childhood, Lennie Tristano developed from the 1940s a structured method of teaching improvisation that trained, among others, Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh. In 1949, his pieces Intuition and Digression were among the first recordings of freely improvised jazz.
