Maarten Altena

Dutch double bassist and composer born in Amsterdam in 1943, a graduate of the Amsterdam Conservatory in 1968. After recording with Theo Loevendie and playing in Marion Brown's trio with Han Bennink, he founded the Maarten Altena Kwartet, which became an Ensemble in 1980, and received the Wessel Ilcken Prize in 1978.
