Canterbury scene and British jazz-rock

Formed around Soft Machine, which came together in Canterbury in mid-1966, this style moves from psychedelic rock to instrumental jazz-rock, fully achieved on "Third" (1970). In parallel, Colosseum (1968) and Ian Carr's Nucleus (1969, first prize at Montreux in 1970) establish jazz-rock in the United Kingdom.
