Concorde
Context
"Concorde," a composition by John Lewis, gives its title to the first Modern Jazz Quartet album conceived from the start as an LP, recorded on July 2, 1955 by Rudy Van Gelder in Hackensack for Prestige. Its eight-bar introduction and its coda adapt a canon from Bach's The Musical Offering, a feature of the dialogue between counterpoint and swing particular to the group. It is the MJQ's first record with Connie Kay.
