Django

Modern Jazz Quartet · 1955

Context

John Lewis composed this theme in 1954 as a tribute to Django Reinhardt, who had died the year before. The track became a signature piece of the Modern Jazz Quartet: bassist Percy Heath said the group would have been in trouble for not playing it in concert.
