Dippermouth Blues
Context
Recorded on April 6, 1923 at Gennett in Richmond (Indiana) by King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band, with Louis Armstrong on second cornet. The title is generally attributed to Joe Oliver, with some attributing it to Armstrong. Oliver's muted cornet solo, prepared for the session, became one of the most imitated of the era; Fletcher Henderson drew "Sugarfoot Stomp" from it in 1925, in an arrangement by Don Redman.
