Frise I et II

Martial Solal · 1962 · Session of June 8, 1962 in Paris; piece written in memory of a frieze in Brussels.

Context

Piece by Martial Solal recorded in Paris on June 8, 1962, in a trio with Guy Pedersen and Daniel Humair, and released by Pathé-Marconi under the title "Frise I et II." It was written for the inauguration, in Brussels, of a frieze by the artist Raf Cleeremans. At 9 min 36 s, it is the longest track on the second disc of the Fresh Sound compilation; one critic sees in it a foreshadowing of Solal's more complex compositions.
