Martial Solal · 1962 · Recorded in concert at the salle Gaveau, May 3, 1962 (Columbia FPX 221, "Jazz à Gaveau").

Context

Martial Solal takes up this theme in trio with Guy Pedersen and Daniel Humair at the concert recorded at Salle Gaveau in Paris on May 3, 1962, released by Columbia as "Jazz à Gaveau". Trained in bop with an admiration for Bud Powell, Solal was then seeking new harmonies; the Fresh Sound reissue of these sessions highlights the velocity and swing of his playing, and a greater technical maturity in the 1960-1962 trio.
