King Porter Stomp

Jelly Roll Morton · 1923 (year to be confirmed)

Context

Morton claims to have written this piece well before recording it as a piano solo in 1923; he presented it as the first "stomp" in jazz. Fletcher Henderson made an arrangement of it that Benny Goodman recorded in 1935 (Victor, with Bunny Berigan): its success made it a big-band swing standard.
