Libertango

Astor Piazzolla · 1974

Context

Recorded in May 1974 at Mondial Sound Studio in Milan for the Carosello label, with a jazz-rock rhythm section (Pino Presti on bass, Tullio De Piscopo on drums). Its title, a contraction of "libertad" and "tango," marks Piazzolla's break with classical tango in favor of tango nuevo; Grace Jones would draw "I've Seen That Face Before" from it.
