Partita
Context
After Indo-Jazz Suite (1966), Calcutta-born violinist and composer John Mayer and saxophonist Joe Harriott extend their double quintet bringing together jazzmen and Indian musicians (sitar, tampura, tabla). "Partita" takes up the whole A side of the album Indo-Jazz Fusions: Mayer's compositions are played there in a modal way, with wide room left for improvisation.
