The Köln Concert, Part I
Context
Improvised solo on January 24, 1975 at the Cologne Opera House, on a poor-condition rehearsal piano because no suitable instrument was available, Keith Jarrett drew from it a style based on ostinatos and rolling left-hand figures. Released by ECM, the album is the best-selling solo jazz piano record, with about four million copies.
