Bunk Johnson
New Orleans trumpeter Bunk Johnson stopped playing after a fight in 1931 in which he lost his trumpet and front teeth; the authors of Jazzmen found him and paid for dentures and an instrument. His 1942 recordings with George Lewis made him famous and a figure of the revival.
