Ian Carr

trumpet, flugelhorn · 1933–2009 · Dumfries

Self-taught Scottish trumpeter, he co-led the Rendell-Carr Quintet from 1963 to 1969, then founded Nucleus, first prize at Montreux as early as 1970. Also the author of a reference biography of Miles Davis (1982, 1999), he played from 1975 in the United Jazz + Rock Ensemble.
